Company Overview

The World Affairs Council of Northern California is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to promoting public discussion of issues and opportunities that transcend borders. The Council, the largest foreign affairs organization on the West Coast, has a membership of over 10,000 citizen and corporate leaders, students, and teachers. It has an annual budget of $3 million and a professional staff of twenty.

Each year, the Council hosts more than 200 public programs, film screenings, and an Annual Conference at Asilomar. Our speakers include foreign heads of state, high-ranking present and former government officials and key thought-leaders in academia, public policy and international development. Our online media archive, podcasts and weekly nationally syndicated PBS radio show, Its Your World, extend our reach to a broader audience. The Council’s activities take place at the World Affairs Center in the financial district of San Francisco; at its chapters in Napa Valley, Sacramento, Contra Costa and Marin Counties, and the Peninsula; at the headquarters of its corporate members in classrooms and on-line. www.itsyourworld.org

The Council is also home to the Global Philanthropy Forum, which is a network of individual donors, foundation leaders, social investors, and agents of change that come together to learn more about opportunities to advance international giving. The Forum serves to inform, expand the international philanthropic community by matching individual grantmakers to vehicles for overseas giving, assisting foundations and governmental donor agencies in finding partners in philanthropy, and by highlighting international issues of concern. www.philanthropyforum.org

The Council is located at the World Affairs Center, a building owned and operated by the Council housing many Bay Area nonprofit organizations.
